Record opening day collection for 'Bodyguard'

The festival of Eid has once again proved to be lucky for Bollywood superstar Salman Khan whose new release "Bodyguard" has earned a record Rs.22 crore net as first day collections -- surpassing blockbusters "Dabangg" and "3 Idiots".

The action-packed drama, in which Salman has teamed up with Kareena Kapoor, was released on Eid-ul-Fitr Wednesday. His "Wanted" and "Dabangg" too released on Eid in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

"Bodyguard" has not only surpassed first day collections of "Singham" (Rs.9.1 crore), "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" (Rs.8.15 crore), "Delhi Belly" (Rs.7.15 crore), "Ready" (Rs.13.5 crore) and "Dum Maaro Dum" (Rs. 6.2 crore), it has also overtaken the box office earnings of "Dabangg" and "3 Idiots", which collected Rs 14.5 crore and Rs.13 crore, respectively, on the first day.

"The response to the film has been amazing. We had estimated the collection to be Rs.20 crore on the first day and it went on to be Rs 21.5-22 crore net, which are phenomenal figures for the first day," Priti Shahani, chief strategy and marketing officer, Reliance Entertainment, told IANS.

"Salman, no doubt, is the biggest driving factor as he has a huge fan following. A good release date is extremely crucial on the theatrical side and Salman and Eid are indeed a lethal combo," she added.

Made at an approximate budget of Rs.60 crore, the film released in India with 2,600 prints and 325 prints overseas. Shahani said they haven't yet got the figures for overseas collection.

A Hindi-remake of the Malayalam film of the same name, "Bodyguard" has been directed by Siddique and co-produced by Salman's brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri and Reliance Entertainment.

Shahani predicts that the film will cross the Rs.100-crore mark in the very first week.

"Looking at the unprecedented response to the film, 'Bodyguard' is likely to cross the Rs.100-crore mark in its first week," she said.

With an extended weekend, multiplex owners are hoping to make good business.

"The opening has been nice, the occupancy has gone up to 80 percent. People are liking the film. We are hoping for a good weekend and expect the occupancy to go up to 100 percent," said Munish, managing director (marketing) of Satyam Cineplex.

Yogesh Raizada, of Waves Cinemas calls the film a treat for Salman fans.

"It's a complete Salman Khan with lots of action and some comedy. People are enjoying the film. On the first day, the occupancy was around 80 to 90 percent in the suburbs and in the NCR region. We hope an equally good response over the weekend," he said.

“The one in Salman’s latest film is not an item number. It is small part in the title track. But the other rumor of doing an item number with Sanjay Dutt for the film Agneepath is absolutely untrue.”

“There is nothing like opting out. The YRF films — Ek Tha Tiger with Salman and the other film with Shahrukh Khan — were commitments made long before. There are films that will be discussed. Sometimes they happen, sometimes they don’t. It’s that simple. I haven’t chosen anyone over someone else.”

Patching up the Khan’s is not Katrina’s responsibility!

“They both are my co-stars for different films and at the end of the day we go to our respective houses. It (their enmity) does not have any impact on me. And I am glad that I am working with two senior…respected professionals in the industry. I think they can handle whatever their equation is between them. When the actress was asked if she would like to see the two patch up, she said, “It is hardly my place. I don’t think it is my responsibility.”

Salman whistles for Katrina!!!

Katrina Kaif was unable to blow whistles for a sequence in her item song in “Bodyguard”, and it was our very own man with a golden heart, Salman Khan who came to her aid.

Katrina, is seen in the second half of the item song “Aaya re aaya bodyguard’. The actress was pretty uncomfortable blowing six whistles in the song. Leave six, she couldn’t even blow one:D.

The two continue to share a warm relationship despite parting from each other.

Bollywood Actor Salman should do Magadheera remake: Kajal

Kajal Aggarwal believes all her Telugu films have fabulous remake value and Salman Khan is the best choice for Magadheera's Hindi remake.

Kajal Aggarwal is an addition to the growing list of actresses, who are born and brought up in Mumbai, but have made a successful career in South Indian cinema. She will be seen opposite Ajay Devgn in the upcoming action flick Singham . In an exclusive conversation with Gaurav Malani , she speaks about both, Bollywood and South cinema and how she wants all of her Telugu films to be remade in Hindi.

Wasn't (Ash-Vivek starrer) Kyun Ho Gaya Na your debut film!
I did Kyun Ho Gaya Na when I was in the ninth grade! I was still a kid then. So I would consider Singham as my Hindi debut. At that time acting was never on my mind and education was a priority. I wanted to pursue MBA but I strongly believe in destiny, which I guess, had different plans for me.

After Telugu films, was Bollywood the next obvious step?
I never strategized my career as such. I never planned that I wanted to start in Hindi films after working in a certain number of Telugu films. I am lucky that things have been naturally falling into place so far.

Were Singham makers particularly looking for a South actress for this Tamil remake?
Not really! Rohit Shetty wanted a fresh face for the film but also with an acting background to her. They did not have time to teach anybody. When they saw my film Magadheera , which is a huge hit in South, they felt that I was perfect for the part in Singham .

Considering it's a male-dominated action flick, how much scope do you have?
There is also a sweet romantic story attached to Singham . Though I have a short role in Singham , it is an important part. I do not believe that the screen-space allotted to a character would define their acting ability. And I personally believe that even if the role is short, the impact that the character makes in that time is more important.

Ajay Devgn is known to be a prank-master. Did you fall prey of his jokes?
Ajay is a wonderful actor and pulled a prank on me on the first day itself. I was asked to scream for a scene and later I realized the camera wasn't rolling at all. But I think it was a nice way to break the ice.

What is that one thing you learnt from Ajay Devgn?
The ability to get into the character once the scene rolls and cut-off from it when the director says cut. The ease with which he does that is remarkable.

Which is a better film – the Hindi or the Tamil Singham ?
It is unfair to say that any version is better than the other. But I do think there have been changes made in the Hindi version which would suit the Hindi audience sensibilities. While the female lead (Anushka Shetty) in the original was a Tamil character, we have changed her into a Goan Maharashtrian in Hindi.

How comfortable were you with the Hindi language?
I am born and brought up in Mumbai, so Hindi and Marathi come very easily to me.

In that case how comfortable were you with Telugu language when you started in South?
Initially I had to work very hard over the language but now, after 4 years of experience, I am quite fluent with it. I am still learning Tamil though.

Would you want any of your South films to be remade in Bollywood?
All my films have fabulous remake value but I don't have a say in this. It's more of a director's call. But if you ask me, I would want all my South films to be remade in Hindi.

If Magadheera was to be remade in Hindi, which Bollywood hero can pull off the character?
The male lead in Magadheera has a lot of heroism in terms of his attitude and body language. Many Bollywood actors have the potential to play the lead in Magadheera . Choosing one is difficult but I guess Salman would suit the role best.

Post Singham what would be your focus – Hindi or Telugu cinema?
I would want to strike a balance. While my loyalties remain in South cinema, since I started out there, I would want to work in Hindi films as well.

Bollywood Actor Salman bares his torso to promote ‘Chillar Party’

Mumbai: Salman is in his elements when he’s off shirt! So, when the actor came out to promote his debut production venture ‘Chillar Party’, you know exactly what he did, right?

While promoting ‘Chillar Party’, Salman Khan showed off his chiseled torso. It was during a shoot of a promo for the film that Salman Khan joking around with kids took off his shirt and all the kids followed suit.

A source present at the set said, “Salman Khan has been trying to make sure that ‘Chillar Party’ does well at theatres and is watched by many people because it’s a story with a heart. Salman has already made an appeal for the film to be made tax-free and he has also got Ranbir Kapoor do to a special item song.”

‘Chillar Party’, set to release on July 8, is a children’s film with characters named like Encyclopedia, Jhangia, Akram, Secondhand, Panauti, Silencer, Aflatoon, Shaolin and Fatka.

Review: ‘Ready’ ends up being a cheesy comedy!

After the humongous success of ‘Wanted’ and ‘Dabangg’, Salman Khan is enjoying the best of times in his Bollywood innings. In Anees Bazmee’s ‘Ready’, a remake of Telugu blockbuster, Salman Khan once again plays himself with élan. Starring Asin, Paresh Rawal and Arya Babbar, despite all its stale gags, below-the-belt humour and struggling wit, the film belongs to one and only Salman Khan.

In ‘Ready’, Prem (Salman) is the son of industrialist Rajveer Kapoor (Mahesh Manjrekar), a rich spoilt brat who loves playing a perfect matchmaker for distressed souls, while his father struggles with a rare amnesia, whose dialogues and gestures are replete with double entendre.

One fine day, Sanjana (Asin) enters Prem’s life and his weird family is completely smitten by her. However, Sanjana does not reciprocate their feelings for she is not what Prem’s family thinks about her as she has her own agenda. Sanjana is on the run from her wily uncles who are desperate for her wealth.

Talking about the film, ‘Ready’ is not even remotely close to the brilliance of ‘Wanted’ and ‘Dabangg’. It is full of corny dialogues and adult humour. In fact, ‘Ready’ should have been named ‘Salman Khan’ because without the actor, there is nothing in this film, the script terribly lacks imagination, the humour is stale and the jokes are completely no-brainer.

Okay, the music is groovy and the songs are infectious, especially ‘Dhinka Chika’ and ‘Character Dheela’, but overall, the film lacks class and craft.

A big disappointment for Salman Khan fans; ‘Ready’ is one time watch film.

Hot : Salman will finally kiss on screen

After several denials, Salman Khan has finally agreed to kiss Asin in Anees Bazmee’s ‘Ready’. Salman was at first not ready to kiss Asin at any cost but when the director of the film, Anees Bazmee explained Salman about the demand of the script, he agreed.

Even Asin tried to persuade Sallu that the kissing scene is a demand of the script and he should do the act. However, it’s not a lip-lock but a peck on the cheeks. If not a lip-lock, the director has to satisfy with a kiss on cheek only.

Salman has starred in several films over the years and acted with so many female beauties but he never lip-locked with any of his actresses in this long tenure of acting.

Bollywood News: Salman Khan promotes Ajay Devgn’s Singham…

Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan have recently been bonding over workouts and general fitness.

Reveals a source, “When Salman saw Ajay’s bare-bodied look in Singham he loved it so much that he immediately called him up and complimented him on it. Since then they have been discussing and sharing tips on fitness and health.”

When Devgn requested Khan to attach the Singham promo with Ready (releases June 3), the star personally called up his producer Bhushan Kumar and asked him to do the needful. AJ has even promised to show the film to Sallu, on his return from London.

Says an insider, “Everyone knows that Salman goes all out to promote the films he loves. Many people including Aamir Khan’s Delhi Belly, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara, Ghayal 2 and Chillar Party have attached their promos to Ready’s prints.”

Bhushan says, “It’s a pleasure attaching Ajay’s Singham with Ready. Salmanbhai put in the request. Ajay has also done a cameo in Ready. All the makers of the top films releasing in the next few months have wanted to attach their promos with Ready.”

Singham director Rohit Shetty says, “Ajay is dubbing for the promo in London. Ready is looking big and is expected to take a huge opening. Ajay and I had always planned for the first promo to come with it, so he spoke to Salman about it. The film releases in July.”

Bollywood News: Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger goes global….

Salman Khan’s next flick, Ek Tha Tiger is all set to be shot all across the globe. The film will be shot in five countries around the world. News has it that Chile in South America, Dublin in Ireland, and Istanbul, have been confirmed so far.

Ek Tha Tiger will be Yash Raj’s biggest budget film. A trusted source says, “Kabir is not shooting at these locations just to beautify his film.
The film is based on a true story. Kabir is exploring seven countries, out of which they will finalise five. He had gone on a recce recently to figure out the logistics. So far they have been able to decide on these three countries.”

The shooting of the film will begin in July and is slated for an early summer release, next year. The first shooting schedulesis in Chile.

Hot News: Nayantara to romance Salman Khan

Nayantara had always maintained that she is not interested in making a Bollywood debut.

The actress, who has made a mark in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu film industries, is happy with the way her career is going in the South Indian film industry and didn't ever show any interest in jumping on the Bollywood bandwagon.

However, it seems times have changed. With what we hear, Nayan will very soon be seen in a sequel to a Bollywood blockbuster. Buzz is that Salman Khan, who rocked the box office with the Hindi remake of Pokkiri, is high on making a sequel to the film.

The plans of Wanted 2 were already announced by Salman and director Prabhu Deva after the first installment became a huge success. However, Prabhu got busy with his assignments down South, while Salman had Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard.

But now, Salman is keen on kick-starting Wanted 2 once his ongoing projects end. Most interesting part is that Prabhu Deva is mulling over introducing his lady love in Bollywood with the sequel.

The news comes as a surprise as there have been reports about Nayan planning to quit acting post her marriage to Prabhu. However, as per the latest buzz it seems Nayan's all set to join her contemporaries like Trisha, Asin, Ileana and Kajal who have worked or signed Hindi films.

Almost immediately after playing the chocolate-boy hero in 'HAHK', Salman switched over to action-heavy flicks like Rakesh Roshan's 'Karan Arjun' and K K Singh's 'Veergati'. And slowly, the shirt started coming off more regularly. 

So much so, many people consider it was Salman's pumped up body in the chart-topper "O, o jaane jaanaa" that helped brother Sohail's debut production 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya' (1998), set the box-office on fire. 

But when it comes to drama, he's been at his best with director Sanjay Bhansali. 'Khamoshi' (1996) brought Salman's acting abilities to the fore for the primary time. As the responsive music creator who loves Annie (Manisha Koirala), the offspring of deaf and dumb parents, he displayed a extraordinary degree of adulthood. 

In the same way, his Sameer Rosselini in 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' was a systematically charming character. Just before the release of this film, rumours of his hypothetical liaison with Aishwarya Rai started circulating in tinsel town. But neither of them was willing to talk about the issue; they still aren't. 

After expenditure a few days in a local penitentiary, he was released, much to the ndustry's relief. For, at that time, the total worth of his films under structure was in the region of Rs. 100 crore! 

All the way through it all, Salman kept his mouth shut and came back with a revenge scoring one hit after one more. Neither his rather tarnished standing, nor the bald patch at the back of his head made a dent in Salman's reputation. Obviously, nothing matters but the magic he continues to create on display.
